Q&A | What are Osteopathic Adjustments?

Osteopathic adjustments, also known as High-Velocity, Low-Amplitude Thrusts (HVLA or HVTs), are manual techniques used by Osteopaths to improve joint mobility and alleviate pain. These adjustments involve a quick, controlled thrust to a joint, usually in the spine or other parts of the body, to restore its natural range of motion. The aim is to correct any misalignment or restriction, which can reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and enhance overall function. Patients often hear a “pop” or “crack” during the adjustment, which is simply the release of gas bubbles in the joint.
