Achillies Tendinopathy

Achilles tendinopathy is a common overuse injury that affects the Achilles tendon — the strong band of tissue connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. It often develops due to repetitive strain, sudden increases in activity, poor footwear, or biomechanical imbalances. Symptoms typically include pain, stiffness, and tenderness in the back of the heel, especially during walking, running, or first thing in the morning.

Osteopathic treatment for Achilles tendinopathy aims to reduce pain and inflammation, improve flexibility, and restore proper function of the lower leg and foot. Treatment may include soft tissue massage, stretching, joint mobilisation, and myofascial release to relieve tension in the calf and surrounding structures. An osteopath also works to correct underlying biomechanical issues—such as foot posture or gait abnormalities—and provides tailored exercises to strengthen the tendon and support long-term recovery.

By addressing both the local injury and contributing factors elsewhere in the body, osteopathic care helps promote healing, improve mobility, and prevent recurrence.
